Melissa is the one-woman crafting machine behind Miso Crafty Knits. She's a rookie Mommy to a kiddo who likes to take the path less taken. She sews, knits, bakes, and makes sad attempts at cooking. Melissa graduated from Kwantlen Polytechnic University in 2006 with a Bachelor of Design in Fashion and Technology, and has a background in fashion marketing. Alongside her studies at Kwantlen, Melissa also studied fashion design at EVTEK Muotoiluinstituutti in Helsinki, Finland.
Melissa hails from a small town nestled in the heart of the Kootenays in the Rockies, and made the move to the west coast of Vancouver, BC in pursuit of a career in fashion. During her decade-long life in Vancouver, Melissa enjoyed life as a fashion student, barista, design assistant, technical designer, mechanical bull rider, downtown party girl, and stylish globe trotter. She currently resides on Vancouver Island with her life partner, Brett, and their technology loving offspring in a house full of yarn.
This blog was created in 2008 whilst Melissa was pregnant with the Munchkin, and was mainly used as a personal place to record and catalogue all crafty endeavors with little snippets of life thrown into the mix. Melissa soon discovered that people she didn't know personally actually read the blog and shared with her the love of all crafty goodness. Over the years Melissa's passion for knitting took over her life and eventually Miso Crafty became Miso Crafty Knits. With so many knitting projects on the go and using way too many plastic bags, Melissa used her sewing skills to make box bags for herself. Soon, after being asked to sew up bags for others, Melissa started making and selling project bags through her Etsy shop, Miso Crafty Knits.
As of February 2013 Melissa has started her venture in knitwear design. Currently, her patterns can be purchased through her Etsy shop and Ravelry.
