Stash Dash 2014

SGY - Twinkle Toes - Magnolia

Stash Dash has started today. And I'm PUMPED!!

Don't know what Stash Dash is? Well here's the jist: created by The Knit Girllls, Stash Dash is about knitting/crocheting/weaving/spinning from stash. You have from today (Friday, May 23rd for those of you who have no idea what day it is) to August 7th (FYI: that's approximately 2 months and 2 weeks) to knit/crochet/weave/spin up 5K of yarn - that's 5000 metres or 5468 yards. Which breaks down to a mere 66m/72yds that needs to be knit up daily.

The Knit Girllls have even made this super cheater friendly too. As in you don't have to cast on new projects just to be able to join, you can finish WIPs during this time frame and every single bit of yarn will still count towards your final yardage count. And the stash? You don't have to dig up the oldest of the old, any yarn or fibre that has entered your house before today counts. Which is good. Because I received a skein of yarn yesterday and can use it if I wanted to. Calm down. I didn't buy yarn for this, that skein was from a yarn club. This isn't an exclusive KAL either. The Knit Girllls encourage you to use this KAL with other KALs, which is perfect because obviously I'm still doing the Socks With Sarah KAL.

After much perusing of the Ravelry thread and then hemming and hawing over whether or not if I can pull it off, I decided to just cave and join in on the fun. After all, anything that gets me knitting from stash and possibly getting a few old WIPs off my needles is ace in my books! So the past few days I've been planning and plotting my projects trying to get my yardage to add up. So far this is the game plan:

Concrete & Tulips socks - 405 yds (I may or may not have put off binding off until today so that this counts!)
     ♥ Unikitty socks - 436 yds
♥ A teacher gift - pattern still undecided but yarn picked out - 858 yds
♥ A teacher gift - pattern still undecided but yarn picked out - 792 yds
♥ Happy Street shawl WIP - 1320 yds (remember this shawl? I can't remember the last time I knit on it!)
♥ Imagine When shawl WIP - 560 yds (I don't think I've blogged about that one yet?)
♥ Socks - pattern to be determined later...if I get to it. But yarn picked out - 332 yds

All that there adds up to 4703 yds. I'm saving the remaining 765 yds for the baby knits that I must knit up before the summer is over. And if all else fails, I always have the Dahlia cardigan WIP to fall back on. That there will pull in 1440 yds and is a project that I really, really, really should finish.

I'm hoping to get at least half of these projects completed. The teacher gifts for sure. But even if I don't get all these projects finished I won't be bummed. I'll be happy to not only knit up some stash but to get some projects off the needles.

So with that said, I've got a pair of socks to bind off (yay for an easy 405 yds!!) and a pattern to pick out for that teacher gift. After all, there's only 5 weeks left of school and I've got 2 of these gifts to whip up!

♥ Happy Knitting & Stash Dashing! ♥

    1. Join, join, join!! :) I like how there's absolutely no pressure, just a fun way to remind yourself to knit from stash! And what perfect time than the summer? That is, if you can handle knitting during the summer heat!

I have more stash and raw fiber than anyone person should have. I have two looms, two spinning wheels, a carder and much more. It is sad because of some surgeries, I can no longer use most of it. I was hoping this would inspire me to do some more or let others use up mine.

    1. Oh no! That's so sad to hear! I can no way understand what it's like to not be able to spin/knit/or weave anymore, but know of a couple of knitters who had to stop due to carpal tunnel and the surgeries that go with the syndrome. I hope that you are at least able to do some form of fibre arts?

  3. So glad you shared about Stash Dash! I think it may be just the thing to inject a bit of excitement and ambition into my summer. Now, I just need to come up with enough knitting...socks don't really eat up a lot of yarn, especially at the rate I'm able to produce them!!

    1. YAY! I hope you do join the fun of Stash Dash! I've been extremely tempted these past few days to buy yarn but Stash Dash has reminded me that I have a lot of lovelies in my stash already! Haha, and I understand needing to find projects other than socks to come up with the yardage. Sadly though, some of the shawls I'm planning on knitting just don't eat up much yarn either!

      Good luck! ♥
