Bugs

There's some sort of bug going around and my house has definitely been hit with it. Actually, as I type, I'm still dealing with it. This is kind of a rare occurrence in my household as we don't get sick that often. Both Brett and I can guarantee that we will get a major flu or something every 3 years (is it weird that we can predict that?) with random sniffles here and there. The Munchkin, in all 4 years of his life, has only been sick a handful of times. Yes, he gets runny noses and bouts of sneezing from time to time but nothing that requires medicine or medical attention. Well, I guess that's all about to change now, now that the Munchkin is attending preschool a few times a week and will be exposed to the cesspool of germs and cooties that little ones are generally covered in and like to share with one another.

This time around the Munchkin decided to share these cooties with Brett, who lucked out and had the bug for a weekend and bounced back with nary a hint that he was even sick in the first place. The Munchkin is doing much better (re: he's no longer Mr.GrumpyPants!!) and has been suffering nothing more than a constantly running nose. I, on the hand, had spoken too soon and thought that since a week had gone pass without a single sign on my part that I would be able to escape the grimy grips of sickness. Yeah...I definitely spoke too soon! I think I got the sickness 3 times worse than the Munchkin and Brett combined! And whatever I have, its dwindled down to a hacking cough that has some mega staying powers as it just won't let up. I seriously think I've coughed up a lung somewhere a few days ago. So I've been spending my days sipping tea and switching it up with hot water mixed with honey and lemon slices, hoping to soothe my throat and give it some sort of relief. Sadly the cough medicines I've tried have done nothing (other than make my taste buds cringe with fear) and I'm quite hesitant about taking any more (since I know it most likely won't work). I would just like to have one night of rest. Sans coughing fits. Ugh.

Even though this sickness has put me back and delayed a few things a bit, I'm trying to keep my chin up and truck along as best as I can. I've got piles of fabric cut up waiting to be sewn into bags, a new cardigan WIP on the needles, orders that need to be packaged up and shipped out, and just this past weekend I've managed to whip up a pair of matching hats for 2 of the most important males in my life (Brett, if you're reading this, I meant you and the Munchkin...calm down there Cowboy!). I'm hoping to finally kick this sickness to the curb before the weekend is over so that I can get back on track. After all, the winter holidays are just around the corner and with that comes the need for shop updates, gift knitting, and some major planning and organizing!!

I hope everyone is staying healthy! ♥

  1. Hey Melissa, glad you're over the worst of it. For the nighttime coughing, try rubbing Vicks vaporub on the soles of your feet then putting socks on. Sounds strange, I know! But it works! It worked for my husband and some guys at work! (The brand name stuff works better than te generic store brands).

    1. Thanks for the tip! Very interesting and strange indeed, but at this point, I'm willing to try anything! And I have to agree, Vicks works WAY better than the generic stuff!

  2. Oh you poor thing! That doesn't sound like fun at all. When I am sick I go on fruit overload and drink water like its going out of fashion. Another good thing is watermelon, apple & ginger juice with loads of ginger. The ginger is meant to be good for you when your sick. Hope you feel better soon xo

    1. Thanks Kat! :) I've actually just started adding slices of fresh ginger in my water/honey/lemon combo. I've definitely noticed a difference in how often I cough. I think I should add more and maybe my cough will disappear completely!
