A Fresh Start

MadTosh Chunky Tart Group

Hello Blogging Friends!  Welcome to my new website!

Since it's the Chinese New Year, I thought I would have my first blog post on the new site feature some red yarn...after all, the colour red in Chinese culture symbolizes good luck and is used to ward off evil.  I think I could use some of that luck...and maybe the warding off of anything bad.  I'll admit though, on Tuesday I took a shower.  But I didn't wash my hair.  A shower isn't the same as a bath, right?  The house wasn't totally clean, but I didn't do any sweeping or dusting.  I didn't shoot off any firecrackers (which is probably a good thing, considering that I'm sort of a klutz) but I did wear some red.  Ok, more pink than red, but pink is part of the red family.  Right?  I didn't use scissors all day (you really don't realize how much you use something until you can't) but I did have to use a knife.  Hey, dinner needed to get made.  I also forgot to buy cabbage.  I hope the shower, the knife use, and the lack of cabbage in the house don't screw me over for the rest of the year!  Oh well, like most of my family says, if you don't believe in superstitions, than what's the point in practicing them?  I guess I was hoping to gain some luck, especially in the health department, and maybe to have some good fortune come my way.  No harm in trying.

Anyhoo, here's my new baby.  Do you like?  The past few days when I wasn't knitting I was trying to figure out and learn simple html, and yesterday I decided to stop searching for social media icons that I liked and just make my own.  As with everything in life, this space will definitely be a constant work in progress but I'm quite liking it for now.  Some of you are probably wondering why the name change (well, for those of you who haven't befriended me on Ravelry)?  Well...several reasons.  One of them is that the domain for misocrafty was already taken even though the registration for it will expire this year, I'm not willing to pay the $500 price tag for it.  It totally irks me that the company that currently owns the domain purchased it for a "future project" and never used it.  So sad.  Then I was thinking of a conglomerate name of Miso because when I first started this blog I had wanted to kinda be the Asian Martha Stewart, cause I wanted to do it all.  The name Miso would have been able to cover everything and anything.  But the more I thought about it the more I realized that I'm not really "doing it all".  I mean, I love to bake but I'm not insanely passionate about it.  I'm not constantly baking and experimenting, nor have I made a habit of posting delicious recipes.  And face it, I can't cook.  I'll leave that for Brett.  That's his passion.

Out of everything that I do, I've become known more as a knit blogger than anything else.  Whilst I do sew and that was my main passion in life, I have to admit that my sweatshop years at fashion school (and trust me, it truly did feel like a sweatshop...the fluorescent lighting, the industrial machines, the dust, the late nights, the forgetting to eat cause you're so consumed with your work...), fashion jobs, and the internships (one internship I did had me hand cut knit fabric labels...for four hours a day.  In a really hot studio.  My hand hurts just thinking about it) has made the need for a really long sabbatical.  My hiatus from sewing was definitely much needed and I'm still trying to ease myself back into the clothes making.  I still love to sew and totally feel at home when I'm at my sewing machines but can never get in the sewing time with the Munchkin around, with Brett's hectic work schedule, and with my annoying health problems.  I guess I really won't get into the thick of sewing until the Munchkin starts going to school, which is not for another year or two.

Knitting, on the other hand, has been super easy for me to do.  It's so portable that I'm able to knit any and everywhere.  And I do.  Heck, I'm even knitting now, in between typing out sentences.  Maybe that's why it takes me forever to type out a post?  Hmmm...now there's something to ponder. Anyways, back to the name change.  As much as I would like to do it all and be known as a domestic badass (heh heh, nudge nudge Em), I think for now I'll concentrate on the knitting side of my life.  Don't get me wrong, I'll definitely be posting all crafty endeavors whenever they arise (I'm hoping those occasions arise soon, I have a lot of ideas swimming around in me head!) but I know the majority of my content will be more knitting related.  So there you have it.  What do you think?

Since I've decided to dedicate more time to the blog, I thought I might as well go all out.  As you've probably noticed I'm also on Twitter, Pinterest, and have added where you can find me on Ravelry (I'm über proud that I finally added a contact page and of my social media icons).  I haven't added a Facebook page (yet) solely because the FB is quite the time suck for me and I've been limiting my time on there...a lot.  So trust me when I say it's a good thing I'm rarely on there, cause I get more knitting done when I'm not.  Scratch that, I get more done in general when I'm not on there!  But we'll see how everything goes.  I can't guarantee that I'll always be online or be able to respond quickly (I have a really, really bad habit of reading stuff with the intention of responding later...and then forgetting), but I'm going to make the effort with my not-so-new-now phone.  If you don't hear from me, I'm most likely chasing after a 3 year old or knitting!

So...on that note...welcome to Miso Crafty Knits!  Let's cheers to fresh starts and let me know what you think of the new site!  I'm off to enjoy another cup of coffee and I'm going to sit back and stare at the wall for a few peaceful minutes before the Munchkin wakes up.  And maybe enjoy some nice uninterrupted knitting time.

♥ Happy knitting! ♥

PS: Because someone will ask, the yarn is Madelinetosh Chunky in Tart.  It's so squishy and so soft...and the colour...oh my! Well, my camera doesn't do the colour any justice!
